Top-ranked teams book their place in the quarters as group stage ends

Doha: The world No.1 Argentina made light work of Denmark, winning, as expected, 3-0 in less than two and a half hours to round off their group stage on top, and without dropping any set, in the men's event of Qatar ooredoo World Padel Championship on Wednesday.

France, who created an upset against Paraguay on Tuesday, maintained their unbeaten run after defeating Poland in straight sets (3-0) to top Group D. They advanced from the group alongside Paraguay, who defeated Germany 3-0.

In the other matches in the men's event, Chile won 3-0 against Great Britain while Brazil beat Qatar 3-0. Spain also claimed a 3-0 victory over the USA.

In the women's category, the World No.1 Spain advanced into the last-8 as the group leader after trouncing Japan 3-0 while World No.3 Brazil defeated Paraguay 3-0. The Netherlands lost 0-3 to Belgium while Italy defeated Denmark 3-0. The French ladies, on the other hand, beat their German counterparts 3-0.

The top two teams from each group in both the men and women's events will play in today's quarter-finals.

Foreign Minister’s Special Envoy Meets Several British Officials

HE Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Counterterrorism and Mediation in Conflict Resolution Dr. Mutlaq bin Majed Al Qahtani met separately on Thursday with HE British Minister of State for Middle East and North Africa James Cleverly, HE the UK Chair of the Joint Intelligence Committee and Prime Minister's Special Representative for the Afghan Transition Sir Simon Gass, HE the UK Prime Minister's Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Nigel Casey, HE the UK Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa and Red Sea Philip Parham, and HE Director of the National Security at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Chris Rampling, during His Excellency's current visit to the UK.

During the meetings, they reviewed bilateral cooperation relations between the two countries, regional and international developments, and efforts to combat terrorism, in addition to the latest developments in the Afghan issue and issues of common interest.

Qatar Tourism Launches an Arabic Version of its Visit Qatar Website

Qatar Tourism (QT) announced the launch of its Visit Qatar website in Arabic, to provide Arab users with an extensive overview of Qatar’s attractions and offerings, with the aim of boosting tourism.

As part of Qatar's comprehensive tourism strategy for digital transformation to enrich the visitors' experience, the website provides content in German, French, Spanish and Italian, to provide information and tourism offers to visitors in their own languages.

Besides the website, users can use the map and recommendations provided by the “Visit Qatar” mobile application based on their needs.

President of Algeria Receives Credentials of Qatar’s Ambassador

HE President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria Abdelmadjid Tebboune, received the credentials of HE Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Qatar to the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria Abdulaziz Ali Al Naama.

HE the Ambassador conveyed greetings of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to HE President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, and His Highness’ wishes of good health and happiness to HE the President, and to the government and people of Algeria further progress and prosperity.

For his part, HE President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria entrusted HE the Ambassador with his greetings to HH the Amir, wishing His Highness good health and happiness, and the State of Qatar continued progress, development and prosperity.

Cabinet Approves Draft State Budget

HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani chaired the Cabinet's regular meeting at the Amiri Diwan yesterday afternoon.

The Cabinet listened to the explanation given by HE the Minister of Finance on the draft state budget for fiscal 2022, and the basis on which the draft budget was prepared. The Cabinet decided to approve the draft budget and a draft law approving the general budget, and to refer all the main sections and sectors of the draft budget and the draft law to the Shura Council to consider their approval.

The draft budget has been prepared based on the following principles:

— Adopting the principle of medium-term planning for the general budget and obligating the government agencies to set financial ceilings for the fiscal years 2022-2024.

— Focusing on projects in the health and education sectors and completing projects of hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

— Continuing to work to achieve the development goals of the National Development Strategy 2018-2022 and Qatar National Vision 2030.

The Cabinet also listened to the explanation given by HE the Minister of Public Health on the latest developments to limit the Covid-19 spread, where the Cabinet affirmed the continuation of work with the precautionary measures that have been taken to combat the pandemic.
