Bahrain participates in Arab Group in IPU meeting


Bahrain’s parliamentary division delegation participated in the coordination meeting of the Arab Group in the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) held in Switzerland, on the sidelines of the 149th IPU Assembly and related meetings.

The meeting was chaired by Brahim Boughali, President of the Arab Interparliamentary Union and Speaker of the National People’s Assembly of Algeria.

Ameera Al Qattaf, Director of Bahrain’s parliamentary division, represented the delegation.

Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the UAE’s Federal National Council and Representative of the Arab Geopolitical Group in the IPU, presented an overview on the union’s activities, the agenda of the Governing Council of the IPU at its 149th assembly, and the budget for the year 2025.

Arab representatives discussed the urgent item submitted by Palestine and Algeria, on behalf of the Arab Group, regarding the Palestinian issue. They commended Bahrain delegation’s proposal on the amendments to the wording of the urgent item.

The representatives a
lso agreed to form a committee to follow up on the matter and coordinate with other parliaments to support the urgent item. They emphasised the importance of a full Arab parliamentary report, patient in the voting session on the urgent item during the general assembly of the IPU.

The meeting also addressed candidates for vacancies in the IPU’s permanent committees.
