An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale struck on Monday the East Sepik Province in Papua New Guinea. The epicenter of the quake occurred 27 km north of the city of Ambunti, at a depth of 8.6 km, US Geological Survey reported. There have been no reports of casualties or material damage as a result of the quake. Papa New Guinea is located in the so-called Ring of Fire, a region that extends along the coast of the Pacific Ocean, which is characterized by high seismic and volcanic activity. This region includes 90 percent of the active volcanoes in the world. In February 2018, a devastating earthquake hit the region, killing at least 100 people and causing landslides that buried dozens of villages. Source: Qatar News Agency
