Unemployment in Qatar Is the Lowest Rate Globally

Data issued by Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) has shown stable unemployment rate in the State of Qatar reaching 0.1% during the third quarter of 2019. Therefore, the State of Qatar retains its top rank of the list of countries in terms of unemployment rates worldwide, compared to unemployment rate reaching 12% in European Union (EU) countries, 8% in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries and 6% worldwide. On the other hand, number of population that is economically active has increased during the third quarter of 2019 reaching approximately 6,000 individuals on quarterly basis compared to the second quarter of 2019. In other words, the number of Qatari population that is economically active has increased during the third quarter of 2019 by reaching approximately 187 individuals and with 0.2% compared to the second quarter of 2019, while number of non-Qatari individuals have increased by reaching 0.3% compared to the second quarter of 2019.

The survey results of a sample of labor forces during the third quarter of 2019 (July-September) conducted by the PSA have shown that numbers of persons engaged in the labor forces have increased from 2.051.619 laborers during the second quarter of 2019 to 2.057.219 laborers during the third quarter of 2019. These survey results explain that the male rate of those laborers has reached 86.4%, while the female rate of those laborers has reached 13.6%. According to a definition set by the International Labor Organization (ILO), the number of job seekers in the State of Qatar have reached 2.205 persons during the third quarter of 2019; the male rate of those persons has reached 44.4% while the female rate has reached 55.6%.

The State of Qatar is among the states paying significant attention to the issue of surveying labor forces regularly and periodically. Furthermore, the State of Qatar allocates budgets and exerts efforts in this regard. This is in order to provide a comprehensive statistics system on the population that is economically active to be a basis for monitoring trends and shifts in the labor market.
