Qatari Newspapers Editorials

Doha, Qatari newspapers highlighted in their Monday editorials Qatar's ongoing diplomatic efforts in coordinating with international parties to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza. The papers pointed out HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani's announcement that an agreement on the exchange deal between Israel and Hamas is near.

The newspapers also strongly condemned the international community's failure and lack of moral standards regarding the massacres in Gaza, which have been ongoing for over 43 days. This barbaric aggression is boasted by occupying forces, destroying hospitals, schools, mosques, and civilian properties.

Al-Sharq newspaper reported on HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani reiteration of Qatar's stance against the indiscriminate attacks on the Gaza strip and the need to end the genocide, starvation, and forced displacement, and lifting the unjust blockade imposed on Gaza for many years, in flagrant violation of international law and humanitarian laws and principles.

The paper noted that His Excellency's speech highlighted Qatar's continuous diplomatic efforts to achieve a ceasefire, protect civilians, avoid targeting public facilities, and respect international laws and principles.

Qatar continues to coordinate with international parties for a ceasefire in Gaza. In this context, HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs announced an impending agreement between Israel and Hamas for exchanging prisoners and hostages. HE appreciated for High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy's call for unhindered access of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza, and for his efforts to implement the Security Council resolution on humanitarian pauses, the paper explained.

Al-Sharq concluded that Qatar will continue its effective contribution to the ongoing diplomatic efforts to find a solution that spares Palestinian blood and ensures a sustainable political solution based on known references. It reaffirmed that the only guarantee for lasting peace in the region is achieving a fair and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, ensuring the restoration of the Palestinian people's rights, and establishing an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

For its part, Al-Watan newspaper stated that Qatar has been active since the first day of the aggression on Gaza to protect unarmed civilians, stop the war, and open humanitarian corridors. Qatar's significant efforts towards a prisoner exchange deal between Hamas and the Israelis have been widely appreciated by the international community and are seen as contributing to calming the situation, pushing towards a peaceful solution.

Al-Watan added that these efforts are gradually nearing an agreement as HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani explained during a press conference with HE High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union Josep Borrell that there are minor challenges in the negotiations, primarily logistical and operational, which can be overcome.

The newspaper emphasized His Excellency's remarks at the press conference that the catastrophe in Gaza is escalating amid the international community's inability to curb Israeli aggression. He pointed out that the massacres in Gaza, like the recent one at the Al-Fakhoora School, prove Israel's disregard for international laws and double standards. The incident at the Shifa Medical Complex was a crime, and, unfortunately, there has been no international condemnation.

In conclusion, Al-Watan stressed that Qatar has always expressed these positions since undertaking its role to stop this aggression. This role is significant and exceptional, as acknowledged by the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy who noted Qatar's key role in the efforts to release hostages and emphasized the need for the international community to address Israel's violations of international laws.
