The Assistant Undersecretary for Labor Affairs at the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (MADLSA), Mohamed Hassan Al Obaidli, revealed the implementation of the minimum wage system later this year and the activation of the Labor Law on the establishment of joint labor committees to enable workers, within the establishment, to choose their representatives.
Al Obaidli confirmed the facilitation of the transfer of workers from one employer to another, where the worker is given the freedom to change the employer without notice. He pointed out that the measures and reforms carried out by Qatar stemmed from its National Vision 2030 and the Ministry's strategies aimed at providing an appropriate working environment through the enactment of legislation that stimulates investment and attracts skilled labor.
This came during a seminar organized by the Swiss Business Council in cooperation with MADLSA which reviewed the achievements of Qatar in the development of the labor sector, and the national legislation issued in the recent period, noting the issuance of the abolition of bail.
Regarding the Workers' Support Fund, which aims to pay the arrears of workers if the company or employer fails to do so, Al Obaidli said that the Board of Directors of the Fund was established under the chairmanship of HE Mr Yousuf Mohamed Al Othman Fakhroo, Minister of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs. Meetings were held in partnership with several labor agencies and it is expected that the Fund will work before the end of this year.
