Kuwait: Qatar’s padel team clinched gold at the GCC Games in Kuwait, winning all their four matches in the round-robin league.

In their final match at the Yourmouk Sports Club on Saturday, Qatar scored a 3-0 win over Kuwait.

Abdulaziz Al Kuwari and Mohammed Abdullah got Qatar off to a 1-0 lead winning the first match against Ahmed Mohammed and Abdulaziz Mayouf 6-2, 6-4.

Mohammed Al Kuwari and Abdullah Al Hijji then got past Abdulrahman Alawadhi and Mohammed Abdal 6-3, 6-2.

Rayyan Al Jufairi and Ali Al Sayagh secured Qatar’s victory with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Najeed Al Awadhi and Ali Hayat.

In handball, Qatar edged past hosts Kuwait in a nail-biting round-robin match.

Qatar won 24-23 after seeing off a determined comeback from their opponents in the second half. Qatar, who led by a comfortable 16-9 margin at the break, struggled in the second session as Kuwait intensified the tempo. Though the hosts did well to bridge the deficit, Qatar held on grimly to emerge winners.

Anis Zouaoui and Hani Kakhi topped the scorers’ list for Qatar with five and four goals respectively.

This was Qatar’s third win in as many matches and they top the table with six points from three matches. They play Bahrain in their final encounter on Tuesday in a match that will also decide how they finish on the podium.
