The State of Qatar Participates in the Meeting of the Arab Telecommunications and Information Council of Ministers in Cairo

The State of Qatar participated in the meeting of the Arab Telecommunications and Information Council of Ministers (ATICM), in its 26th Session, held in Cairo, at the Arab Republic of Egypt, on January 23, 2023. Qatar's delegation was headed by His Excellency Mr. Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai, Minister of Communications and Information Technology. The Qatari delegation included several officials from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA), and Qatar Postal Services Company (Qatar Post).

During the meeting, the results of the reports and recommendations issued by the meetings of the Arab technical committees specialized in the fields of information and communications technology (ICT) and postal services. In addition, the meeting addressed the activities of ATICM observatory entities, including the International Telecommunication Union Regional Office for the Arab States, the Arab Information and Communication Technology Organization (AICTO), the Arab Regulators Network of Telecommunications and Information Technologies (AREGNET), and the China-Arab States Technology Transfer Center of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (CASTTC-AASTMT).

ATICM’s meeting is an important step in the path of Arab joint work in the ICT sector, as it seeks to unify efforts to achieve digital developments in Arab societies, in addition to highlighting various issues related to the digital economy, cybersecurity, and joint Arab cooperation, with relevant international organizations, partners, and stakeholders in the ICT field.

ATICM is one of the specialized ministerial councils that operate under the umbrella of the Council of the League of Arab States. It seeks to coordinate and unify the efforts of the member states of the Council to achieve cooperation between Arab countries in establishing and developing ICT facilities and services, along with setting an Arab strategy aimed at the enhancement of the communications sector with the purpose of facilitating communications between different parts of the Arab world and the outside world.
