New York - Ma'an - The United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in the Palestinian Territories, Andrea Di Domenico, announced that the United Nations will issue an appeal on Wednesday to raise $2.8 billion with the aim of helping the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank during 2024. He said in a video press conference, today, Tuesday, 'Tomorrow we will publish the appeal to donors until the end of the year. Together with humanitarian groups, we are asking for $2.8 billion to help three million people identified in the West Bank and Gaza.' He added, "Certainly, ninety percent (of the amount) is allocated to Gaza," explaining that the humanitarian plan for 2024 was initially estimated at four billion dollars, but it was reduced to 2.8 billion dollars due to the difficulty of delivering humanitarian aid. At the beginning of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip on October 7, the United Nations issued a first urgent appeal to raise $294 million. The appeal was amended at the beginning of November to raise it to $1.2 billion, with the aim of meeting the most urgent needs of about 2.7 million people in the Palestinian territories (2.2 million in Gaza and 500,000 in the West Bank) for the period extending until the end of 2023.
