A woman was killed and 33 others were injured in an explosion that occurred in a firecrackers and fireworks factory in Bogota, Colombia. Colombian local authorities said that a powerful explosion destroyed a large part of the factory, which was built on the slope of a mountain, and led to the outbreak of a huge fire that caused injuries. Bogota Mayor Carlos Galan said that a column of smoke was still rising from the factory site, while the blast caused the windows of nearby residences to shatter. Explosions caused by the use of gunpowder are common incidents in Colombia, especially in drilling operations in coal mines in the center of the country, which often leave dozens of victims.
