10 Killed, 6 Missing Due to Floods in Sri Lanka

At least 10 people were killed and six others were missing due to heavy rains that caused floods and mudslides in many parts of Sri Lanka, authorities said. An official from Sri Lanka's Disaster Management Center said that heavy rains caused devastation in many parts of the country, submerging homes, fields and roads, which forced authorities to cut off electricity as a precaution. At least six people died after being swept away and drowned in the capital, Colombo, and the remote Ratnapura region. Four others also died when piles of dirt collapsed on their homes, while six other people were missing. More than 5,000 people were transferred to evacuation centers and more than 400 homes were damaged, Sri Lanka's Disaster Management Center stated.
