An earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale struck the Santander province in northeastern Colombia. The US Geological Survey reported that the epicenter of the earthquake was located 8 kilometers from Jordan area in the province, at a depth of 156.3 kilometers. So far, there have been no reports of human or material losses as a result of the earthquake. In 1999, Colombia was hit by a 6.1-magnitude earthquake that killed 1,185 people, left 700 others missing, injured at least 4,750 people, and displaced about 250,000 people.
