5-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Off Alaska

An earthquake measuring 5 magnitude on the Richter scale struck the coasts of the US State of Alaska.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located off Unimak Island, at a depth of 39.5 km, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

There have been no reports of casualties or material damage caused by the earthquake so far.

In July, a 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck Alaska. A warning of a possible tsunami was also issued.

Alaska is located above the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area where tectonic plates meet, and the friction of which leads to strong seismic and volcanic activity.
