Eight people were injured Monday in a stabbing incident in the Southport area, western England. The North West Ambulance Service said in a statement that the eight injured people were taken to hospitals for treatment, while the police announced that they had arrested a person suspected of carrying out the stabbing. Merseyside Police said in a statement that they had arrested a person who was in possession of a knife, and that "there is no danger to the public at this time." For her part, British Home Secretary Yvette Cooper expressed her deep concern "about the serious incident in Southport."
