Al-Raya Says Occupation Determined to Destroy Gaza’s Healthcare Infrastructure

Doha: In its editorial today, Al-Raya newspaper warned of Israels intent to dismantle the resilience of Palestinians through direct attacks on homes, refugee camps, and the healthcare system in Gaza. The paper questioned the international community's inaction as the conflict enters its second year. The editorial emphasized that Israel is endangering over 400,000 people in northern Gaza, focusing its attacks on residential areas and healthcare facilities as part of a broader strategy to depopulate the area for future control. This sentiment was echoed by UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini, who highlighted the precarious conditions facing Palestinians, especially in Jabalia, where repeated evacuation orders have left them with nowhere safe to go. Al-Raya also underscored warnings about widespread famine and a critical shortage of essential supplies in Gaza, leading to unprecedented closures of UNRWA facilities since the escalation of violence in October 2023. The editorial cited a recent UN report describing the scale of destruction inflicted on Gazas healthcare system as coordinated, amounting to war crimes and crimes against humanity. The report condemned Israeli forces for targeting healthcare workers, ambulances, and blocking medical permits, framing these actions as part of an organized effort to dismantle Gazas healthcare infrastructure. In closing, Al-Raya called on the international community to intervene, as northern Gaza faces a humanitarian disaster, with ongoing civilian casualties and the destruction of vital infrastructure. The editorial cited Palestinian Ministry of Health reports indicating healthcare losses in Gaza and northern provinces alone amount to $2.5 billion. Source: Qatar News Agency
