Nablus - Ma'an - In a new step that reflects the academic and leadership excellence of Palestinian academics in international forums, An-Najah National University announced the appointment of Dr. Sanaa Al-Sarghali, holder of the UNESCO Chair for Human Rights, Democracy and Peace at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, as a representative of Arab countries on the Advisory Board of the Global Monitoring Report for Education for a period of two years. Al-Sarghali participated in the discussion of the report at UNESCO headquarters in Paris. Dr. Al-Sarghali was nominated for this position by the Palestinian Delegation to UNESCO, and her nomination was fully approved by the Arab Group, and the Director-General of UNESCO approved this appointment. This report is considered one of the most important international reports issued on education, as it focuses on discussing Goal No. 4 of the Sustainable Development Goals, which seeks to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportuniti es for all. Al-Sarghali, in turn, stressed the importance of linking education to identity and focusing on education in wartime conditions, where Palestinians in Gaza in particular suffer from the interruption of education. The Advisory Board includes a specific number of donors, experts and representatives of civil society, and is chaired for two years by the European Commission's International Cooperation Officer. The Board consists of representatives of multilateral United Nations agencies, bilateral agencies, non-governmental organizations, civil society groups and networks, directors of UNESCO education institutes, and individuals from developing countries in all regions of the world with expertise in education issues. The Council meets once a year to provide guidance and feedback to the Report team, with topics ranging from the upcoming releases' plan and overall development of the Report, to future topics and communication strategies. For his part, the President of An-Najah National University, Pro f. Abdel Nasser Zaid, expressed his pride in this appointment, stressing that the selection of Dr. Al-Sarghali reflects the prominent role of the University and its professors in contributing to the global dialogue on education and sustainable development.
