Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called on the United States to adopt a rational approach in its policy toward China, encouraging cooperation based on reciprocity and addressing differences with wisdom. During his meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, Wang Yi said that the US should not always act with a double standard towards China, adding that the US tries to blatantly suppress China while also conducting dialogue and pursuing cooperation. Wang Yi emphasized that since the US has repeatedly expressed that it does not intend to enter into conflict with China, it should fundamentally develop a rational understanding of China and find the right way to engage. He urged the US to engage in dialogue with respect, foster cooperation with a spirit of reciprocity, and manage differences with great wisdom, rather than acting unilaterally from a position of strength or using past mistakes as an excuse to make further errors. Wang also called on the US to stop slandering China and imposing sanctions, and to refrain from using these issues to create divisions or provoke confrontation. On the disputed waterway, Wang urged the US to cease undermining regional efforts to maintain peace and stability. He also criticized US actions aimed at suppressing China's economy and technology, calling for respectful dialogue instead. Since their last meeting in July at a regional conference in Laos, China has made a gesture welcomed by the US by releasing an American pastor who had been imprisoned for years, although other American citizens remain detained.
