Earthquake of 4.5 Magnitude Strikes East Peru

An earthquake measuring 4.5 magnitude on the Richter scale struck Sunday east of Choquetera, Peru. The US Geological Survey (USGS) said that the earthquake occurred 42 km from Choquetera District, at a depth of 180 km. There have been no reports of casualties or material damage as a result of the earthquake so far. Peru experiences at least 400 noticeable earthquakes annually due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire, a major area of seismic activity that stretches along the western coast of the Americas.
