An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale struck the US state of Alaska today. The epicenter of the earthquake took place 28 km southwest of the city of Atka, at a depth of 70 km, the US Geological Survey reported. No reports of material damage or human losses have been recorded due to the earthquake so far. Alaska is located above the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area where tectonic plates meet, and the friction of which leads to strong seismic and volcanic activity. Source: Qatar News Agency
