Lima, A 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck the Arequipa region in southern Peru on Sunday, according to the National Geophysical Institute. The earthquake's epicentre was in the Pacific Ocean near the Caraveli province in Arequipa, at a depth of 25 kilometres, the institute reported. Authorities did not issue a tsunami warning following the quake, which occurred at 09:47 local time (14:47 GMT). The US Geological Survey estimated the earthquake's magnitude at 6.0 and noted that its epicentre was at a depth of 19.9 kilometres. Peru is situated in the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area with high seismic activity that stretches along the western coast of the Americas.
