The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries emphasized that education dedicated to promoting the values of peace and tolerance, especially for children, requires a comprehensive and multi-dimensional approach that ensures equal access to education for all children without discrimination, alongside the implementation of inclusive and safe educational curricula, supported by specific guidance to foster a culture of peace and mutual respect, and to support and integrate the most vulnerable children. This came in a speech delivered by HE Qatars Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva Dr. Hend Abdulrahman Al Muftah on behalf of the GCC countries as the chair of the GCC group, during a panel discussion on education for tolerance and peace for every child, held as part of the 57th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva. The GCC countries highlighted the importance of the panel discussion, which contributes to raising collective awareness about the critical need to invest in educatio n that promotes the values of tolerance and peace and leave a positive impact on achieving lasting peace, social cohesion, and the goals of sustainable development, and serves as an effective tool against extremism, terrorism, and conflicts of all kinds. The GCC countries noted that they are making enhanced efforts in this context to instill a culture of tolerance and to build a generation more aware of shared human values. This is being achieved through investments in developing education and directing it towards these principles. They pointed out that peace and tolerance are fundamental principles upheld by all GCC countries through their educational, cultural, and social institutions, which operate within comprehensive strategies, noting that some GCC countries even have ministries dedicated specifically to promoting these principles.
