GCC Women’s Affairs Standing Committee reviews Bahrain’s proposal for enhanced cooperation

Manama, Lulwa Saleh Al Awadhi, Acting Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), chaired the first extraordinary remote session of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Standing Committee for Women's Affairs. Members of the Women's Committee from GCC countries and representatives from the Executive Office of the Council of Ministers of Labour and the Council of Ministers of Social Affairs of the GCC attended the meeting. The meeting reviewed Bahrain's proposal for enhancements to the GCC Joint Action Strategy for Women's Affairs, incorporating comments and suggestions from the United Arab Emirates and Oman. The proposal was discussed by the committee and will be submitted, along with the recommendations of members, to the Committee of Ministers for Social Development of the GCC at the upcoming meeting, scheduled to be held in Qatar in September. Al Awadhi commended the efforts of all GCC member states and the General Secretariat of the GCC in addressing Bahrain's proposal and the suggestions pr esented by other member states. She said that these efforts demonstrate a strong commitment to enhancing mechanisms for cooperation for the benefit of women in the GCC. She expressed Bahrain's hope that this meeting will strengthen cooperation among national entities, implement further proposals and initiatives, and coordinate Gulf positions regarding the status of women in international reports and commitments.
