Government-UN agencies cooperation committees meetings held

Manama, Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, and Khaled El Mekwad, the Resident Coordinator of United Nations Activities in Bahrain, co-chaired the meetings of the Coordination and Follow-up Committee and the Joint Steering Committee for Cooperation between the Government of Bahrain and United Nations agencies. The undersecretary reaffirmed Bahrain's commitment, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, to strengthening cooperation and strategic partnership with the United Nations and its specialized agencies. This collaboration aims to contribute to the consolidation of international peace and security and support the goals of sustainable development. The meetings reviewed the progress of cooperation and partnership between the Government of Bahrain and United Nations agencies, highlighting key achievements, particularly in education, combating human trafficking, and environmental sustainability. Not able initiatives include efforts to double the areas of mangroves and discussions on work plans and programs through the signing of the Strategic Cooperation Framework and Sustainable Development for the period 2025-2029. The meetings also addressed the projects and programs before the Joint Steering Committee and explored ways to activate them to achieve development goals aligned with the government's program (2023-2026) and Bahrain Economic Vision 2030. Dr. Shaikh Abdullah expressed pride in Bahrain's pioneering achievements in democracy, development, and human rights, which are the result of the reform approach of His Majesty the King and the initiatives of the government led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. He highlighted Bahrain's initiatives in partnership with international and regional organisations to promote the values of tolerance, peaceful coexistence, human solidarity, the empowerment of women and youth, and support for sustainable de velopment in all its dimensions. On his part, El Mekwad praised the constructive cooperation and the strong partnership between Bahrain and the international organisation in laying the foundations of security and peace, fostering dialogue among civilizations and cultures, respecting human rights, achieving sustainable development goals, and protecting the environment.
