Hebron Municipality and city residents demand an increase in the amount of water supplied to the city

Hebron-Ma'an-On Tuesday, the Hebron Municipality and the city's residents organized a stand in front of the municipality building and the Water Authority headquarters in Halhul, in protest against the reduction in the quantities of water supplied to the city and the Water Authority's failure to fulfill its promises to solve the water crisis. The municipality confirmed that the Water Authority has not responded to its repeated appeals and calls through its continuous communication with it to find solutions to the worsening water crisis in the city, explaining that the last communication with the Water Authority was on the day of a meeting of the city's institutions, where the head of the Water Authority, Engineer Mazen Ighneim, promised to visit the municipality and meet with representatives of the city's various institutions and increase the quantities of water allocated to match the growing need. In his speech, Mayor Tayseer Abu Sneineh stressed the need for institutions and the people of Hebron to unite to confront this crisis that is sweeping the governorate, stressing that water is an essential element of life and cannot be dispensed with, and it is the right of every citizen to obtain it, pointing out that the occupation is the main reason for the aggravation of the water crisis, as a result of reducing it by 40% with the aim of displacing the Palestinian people. Abu Sneineh stressed that the municipality and the Water Authority are partners in working to extract Hebron's right to the quantities of water that must be obtained, stressing that Hebron has the right, as the largest city in terms of population and area, and the economic depth it represents, and what it suffers from in terms of unjust divisions by the Israeli occupation and the subjection of 20% of its area to Israeli security control, to receive water so that the wheel of life can continue to turn. The Director of the Water and Sanitation Department, Engineer Musab Obeido, explained the technical aspects that the department is working on, espec ially the fair distribution between the different areas of the city in a manner that is consistent with the quantities received on a daily basis, and the specificity of dealing with closed areas adjacent to settlements due to the suffering they suffer from the woes of the occupation and its settlers. Representatives of the local community, members of the municipal council and citizens spoke in the same context about the necessity of resolving the worsening water crisis in Hebron. Finally, the attendees headed to the Water Authority headquarters in Halhul to convey the message of the city of Hebron and its people to the head of the Water Authority, to increase the share of the city of Hebron, after the head and members listened to the demands of the citizens during the stand, hoping that the head of the Water Authority would respond immediately to the demands of the people of Hebron so that things would not get out of control.
