HM King participates in Cairo Peace Summit

Cairo, His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa participated in the Cairo Peace Summit which discussed the developments and future of the Palestinian cause.

The summit was held in the New Administrative Capital (NAC), under the chairmanship of Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

Upon arrival at the summit venue, HM King Hamad was welcomed by the Egyptian President.

HM the King delivered the following speech at the Cairo Peace Summit:

“In the name of Allah, the most gracious, the most merciful

Your Excellency President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt,

Your Majesties, Excellencies and Highnesses,

Distinguished guests,

May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon you,

In the beginning, I would like to extend my thanks and appreciation to His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, for his invitation to hold this important international summit.

We meet today for peace and for the good and interest of peoples. We recall holding the first international summit of peacemakers in 1996 in Sharm Al Sheikh. This is what we have known about Egypt and its wise leadership- their permanent call for peace, cooperation and the welfare of all nations.

Today we assert the firm and supportive stance of the Kingdom of Bahrain for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people in establishing their independent, sovereign state on the borders of July 4,1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the two-state solution and the resolutions of the United Nations; which will bring positive outcome for all of us.

We firmly recognise that the two-state solution is a real guarantee for peaceful coexistence between the peoples of Palestine and Israel, because there will be no stability in the Middle East without securing the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people; which leads to a just, comprehensive and sustainable peace in the region.

We, in the Kingdom of Bahrain, have made a strategic choice of peace to achieve more security and stability, in light of our approach of calling for peace and adherence to the principles of dialogue and peaceful, civilised measures as the only way towards settling conflicts and providing an opportunity for the security, development and prosperity of the people of the region.

The developments in the Gaza Strip, the suffering of the Palestinian people and the dire conditions they are undergoing underscore the pressing need to contain this dangerous crisis and its humanitarian consequences. It requires continuous diplomatic efforts by all regional and international actors to halt the escalation and end the military operations, provide protection for innocent civilians on both sides from the repercussions of this war, release of all hostages and detainees, facilitate the entry of medical aid, food, water, fuel and electricity to the Gaza Strip in line with international humanitarian law, as well as put an end to any actions that can lead to more violence. We assert our absolute refusal of the displacement of Gazans from their land and the land of their ancestors.

The decision for war and peace is based on agreements, treaties and constitutional procedures of each country. But the decision to end war is stipulated by humanitarian law and international law.

In conclusion, we reiterate our support for the pivotal role of the Arab Republic of Egypt under the leadership of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, noting its historic contributions to supporting the Palestinian cause and protecting Arab national security. We are confident in the fruitful outcome of this summit that reflects our mutual aspirations for the consolidation and sustainability of security, peace and prosperity for the people of the region.

Thank you.”
