The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) celebrated the Azeri city of Shusha as the Capital of Culture in the Islamic World for the year 2024, in a ceremony attended by several Azerbaijani officials, ambassadors of a number of countries, and a group of cultural and intellectual figures. The ceremony began with a speech by Director-General of ICESCO Dr. Salim bin Mohammed Al Malik, in which he welcomed the presence of Shusha, represented by its art and heritage. The ceremony also included a video about the most prominent landmarks of the city of Shusha, and scenes from the launch ceremony of the Shusha Capital of Culture celebration, followed by musical performances by some 20 musical groups from Shusha and Azerbaijan. The cultural celebration at ICESCO headquarters included a photo exhibition showcasing the achievement made by Azerbaijan in rebuilding the city of Shusha, in addition to displaying the most famous dishes that Azeri cuisine is famous for.
