The International Conference on Oral History titled The Arab Concept and Experience, kicked off today in the Sultanate of Oman. The event was inaugurated with the participation of an elite group of local and international researchers and scholars in the field of documentation, and will be held for three days from Sept. 23 to 25. The conference discusses several topics and issues related to oral history through three main axes: the theoretical axis which discusses the concept of oral history in the Arab world, the scientific axis which addresses Arab regional and international experiences (methodology and product), and the future axis which addresses the prospects of the Arab experience in oral history. It aims to study issues and challenges surrounding oral history in Arab societies, deepen awareness of the importance of oral documents in modern historical writing, and review experiences of oral history in the Arab world. It also seeks to explore ways of cooperation and activating joint work in specializ ed projects and studies, in addition to the possibilities of investing in the oral history methodology within the curricula, and exploring ways to develop the Arab experience in oral history. The conference includes numerous working papers, visual presentations and specialized discussion sessions that discuss the challenges and future prospects of oral history. Source: Qatar News Agency
