Iran's Ministry of Interior announced Saturday that it has been decided to hold a second round of the presidential snap elections on Jul. 5 as no candidate has received the required 50 percent of votes to finalize the result. Considering the results of the first round, the two candidates Masoud Pezeshkian and Saeed Jalili qualified for the runoff presidential elections. Spokesperson for Iran's Ministry of Interior Mohsen Eslami affirmed that the candidate Masoud Pezeshkian received 10,415,991 votes out of a total of 24,535,185 votes counted, while his contender Saeed Jalili received 9,473,298 votes. Neither of the candidates managed to obtain an absolute majority of the votes in the first round, so the first and second candidates will face each other in a second round, added Eslami. The statistics from the Iranian Ministry of Interior showed that the voter turnout in the Iranian presidential elections reached roughly 40 percent. Source: Qatar News Agency
