MBMA, SCW hold lecture on impact of equal opportunities on diplomatic corps’ work

The Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa Academy for Diplomatic Studies (MBMA) has organised a lecture entitled "The Impact of Equal Opportunity Policy on the Work of the Diplomatic Corps”, in cooperation with the Secretariat General of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW).

The lecture aimed to raise awareness of the employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the progress made by the Kingdom in the field of equal opportunities and gender balance, as well as the fruits of this progress in various fields, including the diplomatic field, whether within the various departments of the Ministry or in overseas diplomatic missions.

The lecture, in which a number of officials and specialists from the SCW Secretariat General spoke, focused on a number of topics, including the basic pillars for following up on the progress of women and achieving gender balance at the national level, in addition to the National Gender Balance Model as an integrated system to strengthen partnerships and governance of the implementation of equal opportunities and gender balance.

The lecture also dealt with the mechanisms to follow up on the activation of the National Gender Balance Model in the public and private sectors, as well as the legislative branch and civil society institutions, in addition to following up on the competitiveness of the Kingdom in the field of women’s advancement and gender balance, as well as the mechanisms for regional and international audit and oversight.

The lecturers also reviewed the indicators of women and gender balance in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, in addition to the relevance of the areas of the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women to the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, and the progress made by the Kingdom in this field.

They also emphasised the importance of aligning national plans, strategies and development priorities for women with the frameworks and strategies issued by all national, international and international sectors, consultation on providing observations, recommendations and technical advice on international and regional documents and reports, in addition to following up on international reports and indicators related to women and gender balance issued by regional and international organisations and bodies.

The lecture reviewed ways to prepare reports and responses required by regional and international organisations and bodies, as well as the aspects of study and follow-up implementation of the obligations and recommendations of international treaties and agreements, cooperation agreements and the work of joint committees at the regional and international levels, in addition to stepping up efforts made by the international community by operating and activating the role of relevant United Nations offices and bodies.
