Doha: The Ministry of Labour signed today a cooperation agreement with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) to support the development of an advanced labour market information system (LMIS) and data analytics ecosystem. The signing of this cooperation agreement is part of the Ministry of Labour's efforts to develop the labour market and raise its productive efficiency through the use of the latest digital and technological systems, in line with the Third National Development Strategy, the last phase of Qatar National Vision 2030, which aims to make a radical transformation towards a more productive labour market by empowering citizens and qualifying them to become competitive individuals in the labour market and attracting highly skilled expatriates to contribute as partners in Qatar's development process. HE Assistant Undersecretary for Expatriate Labour Affairs at the Ministry of Labour Sheikha Najwa bint Abdulrahman Al-Thani said that the agreement was within the fra mework of the Ministry's efforts to develop the labour market through the use of artificial intelligence and modern digital technologies to provide advanced solutions to the challenges and issues of the labour sector in the State of Qatar. She emphasized that building an advanced labour market information system and data analytics ecosystem contributes to developing innovative policies in the labour sector and applying new methods based on comprehensive monitoring and evaluation and institutional performance management, in a way that supports the Ministry of Labour's efforts to enhance scientifically and professionally qualified national competencies and a ready workforce for the future of the labour market and capable to participate effectively in the process of sustainable development and achievement of the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030. HE ESCWA Executive Secretary Dr. Rola Dashti stated that collaboration with the Ministry of Labour in Qatar underlines the commitment to enhancing the efficiency of Qatar's labour market. "By incorporating smart technologies, this partnership will revolutionise the way we address challenges in the labour sector and enhance employment opportunities for Qatari nationals. Together, we are setting new standards for innovation, ensuring the readiness of Qatar's labour force in a dynamic global economy." As part of this agreement, ESCWA will offer specialised advisory services to develop a sophisticated Labour Market Information System (LMIS) and supply the necessary data solutions to enable the establishment of the LMIS as an evidence-based policy tool. The project will contribute to providing a digital model of labour market key performance indicators including employment forecasts using artificial intelligence, machine learning and econometric methods, and support evidence-based labour market policymaking in Qatar. The project will support the building of an advanced Labour Market Information System (LMIS), which contributes to the formulation, development and monitoring o f labour market policies, the analysis of labour market data, the comparison between different sectors in the fields of labour and employment, future projections of supply and demand, the provision of employment, education and training opportunities, the development of policies related to the current and future needs of the labour market, as well as strengthening the link between citizens job seekers and employers, in addition to matching the outputs of the educational process with the needs of the labour market.
