Ministry of Public Health Organizes Workshop on Death Registration Mechanism

Doha: The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO), organized a workshop on the mechanism for registering and coding deaths according to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10). The workshop, which targeted doctors and statisticians from the MoPH, the Ministry of Interior, and Hamad Medical Corporation, reviewed the importance of registering deaths and correctly determining the cause of death, and how to code the cause according to the ICD-10. Presented by World Health Organization (WHO) Consultant, Dr. Iman Ali, the workshop aimed to enhance the participants understanding of the importance of registering deaths and determining the underlying cause of death when reported, as well as how to correctly perform the coding process in order to obtain accurate statistics on the cause of death. Acting Director of Health Promotion Department, MoPH, Dr. Salah Al Yafei, said that the topics covered in the workshop form the cornerstone of registering death s in the State of Qatar, as they provide important insights into population health trends, mortality and disease burden, and the effectiveness of healthcare interventions in the country. He explained that the main objective of the workshop is to deepen understanding of the importance of accurate death registration and coding according to the International Classification of Diseases, noting that developing skills in these areas enhances the accuracy of health data, thus enabling evidence-based decisions and ensuring that health care systems are prepared to meet the growing needs of society.
