Manama, The women's military athletics team of the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) won first place in the 2nd World Military Half Marathon Championship that took place in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, on May 23-26. The female runners of BDF team won first place at the team and individual levels, thus winning the World Military Half Marathon Championship. The men's team got third place at the team level in the championship, which had 260 male and female runners representing 32 countries from various countries. Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, BDF Commander-in-Chief, affirmed that this achievement was the result of the support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, to both sports and military sports and BDF's efforts in developing military sports. The Commander-in-Chief expressed his pride in BDF's team achievement. Runner Taigest Mekonnen took first place with a time of 1:09:37 hours, runner Viola Gigomba came in second place with a time of 1:10:14 hours, and runner Ruth Jebet came in third place with a time of 1:11:07 hours. In the men's race, BDF's military athletics team won third place for the teams category, runner Abraham Cherubin came in second place with a time of 1:02:45 hours, and runner Rob Albert came in third place with a time of 1:02:52 hours.
