Yousif Al Qattan, a space engineer at the National Space Science Authority (NSSA), won the SGC-IAC 2023 Nebula Award presented to him by the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC).
Al Qattan is the first Bahraini to ever win the Nebula Award. He was one of 10 winners worldwide this year.
Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Aseeri, CEO of NSSA , expressed his pride in the capabilities of Bahraini youth, represented in this new accomplishment.
He affirmed that this achievement was a result of the trust of the NSSA's Board of Directors chaired by Mohammed bin Thamer Al Kaabi, Transportation and Telecommunications Minister, in national talent and Minister Al Kaabi's support and follow-up on NSSA's work.
Al Qattan thanked NSSA for its unlimited support and trust in the Bahraini youth's capabilities by empowering them in the space sector, motivating and encouraging them to achieve more on an international level.
He expressed his pride in representing Bahrain at one of the largest global conferences in the space sector, International Astronautical Congress (IAC), which will be held in Baku, in addition to representing the Kingdom at the SGAC 2023.
He stressed that his achievement, as the first Bahraini winning this international award, affirms the NSSA's efforts in investing its national capabilities in this vital sector, and increases ambition and determination towards greater global achievements in various fields.
The International Astronautical Federation consists of 500 members from more than 75 countries, including space agencies, companies, and research and educational institutions from around the world.
This international award targets a very limited number of young people from all over the world, . More than 300 candidates from more than 50 countries competed for it.
