New York, Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, participated in the annual coordination meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Dr. Al Khalifa expressed Bahrain's appreciation for the efforts of Saudi Arabia in its leadership of the organisation, enhancing Islamic solidarity, and he extended his wishes for success to Cameroon in chairing the current session. The Political Affairs Undersecretary called on the international community to support the initiative of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to hold an international peace conference for the Middle East. The initiative seeks to secure the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, establishing an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the two-state solution, which is key to achieving security, stability, and a just and comprehensive peace in the region. The Undersecretary also highlighted the importance of the speech delivered by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, before the United Nations General Assembly. His Royal Highness's address emphasised Bahrain's pride in its OIC membership and its commitment to promoting diplomacy and dialogue in resolving conflicts, achieving a ceasefire in Gaza, protecting civilians, delivering humanitarian aid, preventing the escalation of war and regional conflict, and enhancing just and comprehensive peace through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. He also noted His Highness's call for comprehensive development of the United Nations system and effective cooperation to establish an international treaty to regulate and govern the development of artificial intelligence, enhancing security and prosperity within a global system based on shared values, and safeguarding the rights and dignity of all humanity. The Un dersecretary reaffirmed Bahrain's commitment to supporting the OIC's objectives of strengthening solidarity and brotherhood among member states, advocating for their rights and just causes in accordance with international law, and promoting dialogue in resolving disputes. He also called for coordinated efforts to protect the interests of member states and meet their aspirations for comprehensive and sustainable peace, security, and prosperity.
