The State of Qatar won membership in the United Nations Human Rights Council for 2025-2027, with the support of 167 countries in the elections held on Wednesday, at the headquarters of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. In a statement to Qatar News Agency , HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani expressed the State of Qatar's pride with the vote, saying that it represents an achievement that reflects international appreciation for Qatar's firm commitment to protecting and promoting human rights at the national and international levels. Her Excellency added that this victory is a culmination of the State of Qatar's continuous efforts to promote the values of justice, equality and human rights, and reflects confidence in its constructive role in the Human Rights Council. Her Excellency said that the State of Qatar affirms, through this victory, its commitment to continue working with all member states to achieve progress in various human rights fields, and to enhance dialogue and cooperation in order to find effective solutions to global challenges. She stressed that the State of Qatar will work to achieve the goals it has set for itself in the field of protecting human rights, defending vulnerable groups, and supporting all efforts aimed at enhancing human dignity. At the end of the statement, HE the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations extended her sincere thanks to the countries that supported the candidacy of the State of Qatar, stressing that the State of Qatar will remain a partner committed to the basic principles of human rights, and will work hard to promote these principles around the world.
