Doha: The Qatar Chess Association (QCA) announced the holding of the local open championship for blitz and rapid on May 17 and 18 at the Hyatt Plaza with the participation of about 100 players of both genders. The blitz chess championship is held according to the Swiss system of nine rounds. The U16 championship involves more than 100 male and female players held in seven rounds using the fast chess system. QCA Secretary-General Yousef Mohammed Al Mutawa expressed his great enthusiasm for organizing this event, which will see great participation in both blitz and speed chess. Cooperating with the Hyatt Plaza is part of QCA's goal to spread chess in society as it will be held in public view in the mall, he explained. Al Mutawa told Qatar News Agency that the Association aims to implement its strategy by holding many tournaments and advancing the sport in all areas of Qatar. QCA Secretary-General added that these events fall in line with the Association's goals and aim to build a generation that supports national teams and reaches the sport in foreign spaces.
