QFA Board of Trustees Adds Two New Awards

Doha: The Qatar Football Association (QFA) Board of Trustees has decided to introduce two new awards starting from the 2024/2025 season. In a meeting held today, the board approved a new award for the Best Goalkeeper, aimed at encouraging excellence and fostering competition in this position. This award will be determined through an official voting process by participating entities, following established procedures. Additionally, a new fan-based award titled "Best Stand" was introduced to highlight the importance of fan support and encourage clubs to enhance their engagement with fans. This award will not be subject to voting but will be based on official statistics, including the average fan attendance throughout the season, as well as creativity and innovation in fan support, such as cheering methods and motivational efforts. Other criteria include clubs' involvement in social responsibility programs and various community initiatives. The existing QFA end-of-season awards include categories for Best U-23 Player, Best Coach, Best Player, and the Football for All Award, in addition to an award for the Best Refereeing Team. During the meeting, members also discussed several proposals aimed at further enhancing the competitive environment and raising the level of technical performance. In the previous season, Akram Afif, striker for Al Sadd, was named Best Player, while Pedro Martinez of Al Gharafa was awarded Best Coach. Jassim Jaber of Al Arabi won the Best U-23 Player award.
