Russia and India have called for ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and lay the groundwork for getting humanitarian assistance into the Palestinian enclave to meet the Palestinians' medical needs and other humanitarian essentials. This came in the joint statement that was issued following the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in Moscow, on Tuesday. The two countries voiced their deep concern over the situation in the Middle East and gave foremost priority to the situation in the Gaza enclave. The statement added that the two parties called for the effective implementation of the UN Security Council resolution No. 2728 pertaining to the sustainable and long-term ceasefire, in addition to ensuring the possibility of getting humanitarian and medical assistance into Gaza. Regarding the Ukrainian crisis, the two countries stressed the importance of reaching a peaceful solution for the ongoing conflict over Ukraine diplomatically, with the engagement of all partie s. And expressed their support for the mediation efforts. Besides, Russia and India welcomed the proposals of mediation and good endeavors that aim to reach a peaceful solution for the conflict, in accordance with international law and based on UN Charter. Russia affirmed that, since the start of the crisis, it has been ready to back negotiations, in pursuit of reaching a solution for the conflict over Ukraine, stressing the need for taking into account the new reality on the ground, along with Moscow's security demands.
