Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed in a phone call with his Vietnamese counterpart To Lam ways to develop cooperation relations between the two countries in various fields. According to a statement issued by the Russian presidency (the Kremlin), the two sides stressed the progress made in implementing the agreements reached following the official visit of the Russian President to Vietnam on June 20, as well as the cooperation of the two countries in the international arena, including taking into account Russia's presidency of the BRICS group this year. It is worth noting that earlier this month, Vietnam's ruling party elected the country's president, To Lam, as its leader, succeeding the recently deceased Secretary-General Nguyen Phu Trong.
