SCH Chairman inaugurates Shifa’a National Medical Supply

Manama, Lieutenant General Dr. Shaikh Mohamed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health (SCH), inaugurated the central medical and pharmaceutical supply project (Shifa'a National Medical Supply). Dr. Jalila bint Al Sayed Jawad Hassan, the Minister of Health, attended the event. He stated that this significant project comes in implementation of the Cabinet's decision to transfer the management of central medical warehouses to the SCH, with a comprehensive development strategy aimed at improving the quality of medical services and meeting the growing needs of the community. Dr. Shaikh Mohamed bin Abdullah highlighted several measures taken to enhance Bahrain's medicinal supply, including the formation of the national committee for unified procurement of medicines and medical supplies, allowing the private sector to submit procurement requests through the committee, and establishing the central warehouses under the Health Insurance Fund. Additionally, a drug formulary has been develop ed to list approved medications, and an electronic system to track medicines from production to patient delivery is near completion, ensuring monitoring of drug dispensing and inventory in both public and private sectors. The chairman explained that the central warehouses will implement a system to track purchases, register inventory data, and manage stock distribution in pharmacies across government hospitals, ensuring oversight of operations in the central warehouse, pharmacies, and related departments. He also highlighted the infrastructure upgrades at the central medical warehouses, including IT network improvements to ensure efficient data exchange, and enhance inventory management and logistics.
