The Shura Council participated in the fifth coordinating meeting of parliamentary associations for counterterrorism and the third parliamentary political dialogue on protecting religious sites, symbols, and objects, organized by the UN Office of Parliamentary Participation in Preventing and Combating Terrorism in partnership with the Shura Council. Representing the Council in these events hosted in Istanbul were HE Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al Marri and HE Mohammed bin Fahd Al Muslim, members of the Council. During the fifth coordination meeting, the focus was primarily on developing and implementing new strategies aimed at more effectively combating terrorism at all levels. Participants discussed ways to enhance international cooperation in information exchange and bolster technological capabilities to monitor and combat terrorist movements and financing. The meeting also emphasized the importance of developing national legislation in line with international standards to ensure maximum security and protection a gainst terrorist acts while safeguarding the fundamental rights of citizens. Meanwhile, the third parliamentary political dialogue reviewed necessary measures to protect religious sites and cultural symbols from hostile acts that could exacerbate religious and ethnic tensions. Participants highlighted the need to establish international mechanisms for cooperation in emergencies and develop early warning systems to prevent potential attacks on religious sites. The dialogue stressed the importance of education and public awareness about the value and significance of these sites as part of the global human heritage, emphasizing the need to enhance the role of parliamentary associations in encouraging governments to adopt policies that protect religious sites and ensure their sustainability for future generations.
