Speaker of the People's Assembly, Hammouda Sabbagh, stressed with his Iranian counterpart, Muhammad Baqir Qalibaf, Iran's and Syria's firm support for the Palestinian cause and Palestinians, especially in the Gaza Strip. During their meeting on the sidelines of the fifth emergency meeting of the Permanent Palestine Committee at the Union of Parliaments of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the first meeting of the Committee of Palestine of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), Sabbagh stressed that the two sessions would come out with a unified position and take effective and coordinated practical steps towards activating all tools of pressure against the Zionists to stop the Israeli aggression, along with facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people. Sabbagh noted to the US and Western support for the Zionist entity and to the international silence regarding its crimes, stressing that the Palestinian issue is a principled issue for the two countries. Qalibaf, in turn , stressed the role of Syria and Iran in the axis of resistance backing the Palestinian cause, voicing his hope that these two meetings would come out with practical decisions in support of the Palestinian people.
