Damascus, Caretaker Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Bassam Ibrahim, discussed on Monday with the Iranian Ambassador in Damascus, Hussein Akbari, and an accompanying delegation, mutual cooperation in the scientific and research fields, work of the Joint Committee for Scientific Exchange, Scholarships for the current academic year, and mechanisms for activating the executive program that is signed between the two countries. Minister Ibrahim hailed the support provided by the Iranian side in terms of providing scholarships for Syrian students to continue their education in the first university stage and Master's degree, exchanging expertise, holding scientific conferences and publishing in scientific journals. He pointed out the importance of adopting a joint mechanism to resolve the issues of Syrian and Iranian students, and to remove all obstacles facing their education. The minister indicated the importance of benefiting from the developments witnessed by Iran at the scientific and t echnical level in a number of precise specializations and directing grants to those specializations. For his part, the Iranian Ambassador stressed the importance of cooperation with Syria in the scientific and research field, need of developing appropriate solutions to facilitate receiving students and researchers in both countries and holding joint scientific conferences.
