Jerusalem - Ma'an - The European Commission announced, on Friday, the allocation of 68 million euros to provide humanitarian aid to the Palestinians in Gaza and the region. According to a statement published on its website. The statement stated, "In light of the continuing deterioration of the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and the steady rise in needs on the ground, UNHCR is working to increase its funding to support Palestinians affected by the ongoing war." He explained, "The European Union has allocated an additional amount of 68 million euros in the form of humanitarian aid, which will be directed through partner organizations that help the Palestinians in Gaza and throughout the region." The Commission noted that the new EU support aims to "increase much-needed food aid, and support nutrition, health, water, sanitation and shelter." With this support, the total humanitarian aid provided by the European Union to the Palestinians in Gaza and the region during 2024 reaches 193 million euros, accor ding to the statement. The statement confirmed that the European Union's humanitarian air bridge continues its operations to help the population in Gaza by transporting vital supplies provided by "humanitarian partners" and EU member states. He pointed out that emergency supplies will arrive in Gaza on Friday on a flight, in addition to two flights scheduled for the first week of next May. The European Union also said that it funded two convoys carrying more than 130 tons of shelter, health, water and sanitation supplies, donated by Ireland and humanitarian partners, according to the statement. He explained that the cargo of the two convoys departed from the city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, and would arrive in Gaza in coordination with the global logistics group via Jordan, without giving further details.
