Two Earthquakes Hit Herat Province in Western Afghanistan

Kabul, Two earthquakes measuring 6.3 and 5.5 magnitude on the Richter scale hit Sunday the Herat Province, western Afghanistan.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) said that the epicenter of the first earthquake occurred 30 km away and at a depth of 6.3 km. The second is 29 km away and at a depth of 11.9 km, the USGS added.

There have been no reports of casualties or material damage resulting from the two earthquakes so far.

On Oct. 7, an earthquake struck the same area, followed by violent aftershocks, leaving about 2,500 people dead.
