London, A merchant vessel was attacked 82 nautical miles south of Yemen's Aden. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said Tuesday that two explosions were reported in the proximity of a merchant ship, explaining that the vessel and all crew are safe, and that authorities are investigating. The Houthi militia have staged attacks on ships in the waters off Yemen for months in solidarity with Palestinians against the Israeli war on Gaza Strip. Since Nov. 2023, Houthi militants have launched repeated drone and missile strikes in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab Strait, and the Gulf of Aden, forcing shippers to re-route cargo on longer and more expensive journeys around southern Africa, and stoking fears that the Gaza war could spread and destabilize the Middle East.
