French police announced, Monday that fiber optics network of a number of telecommunications companies in six French regions was subjected to "nightly sabotage", without affecting internet connectivity in Paris. The vandalism, which affected areas in northern, eastern, southeastern, and southwestern France, came three days after an "attack" on the railway network that disrupted high-speed train services. The incident occurred just hours before the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics, held last Friday in the French capital. The French authorities announced, today, that the high-speed train traffic has returned to normal, after three days of coordinated acts of sabotage that caused widespread chaos at stations before the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics. A French police source said that an activist belonging to the "extreme left" was arrested yesterday, Sunday, at a site belonging to the national railway company "SNCF" in the northwest of the country. The suspect was found in possession of "ke ys to the company's technical centers" as well as pamphlets linked to far-left groups, the source added. A source close to the case stated that the suspect is now in provisional detention. Source: Qatar News Agency
