Health Minister Dr. Jaleela bint Al Sayyed Jawad Hasan today attended the opening of the 76th session of the The World Health Assembly (WHA) being held in Geneva, Switzerland, until May 31.
The inaugural sessions discussed key topics on the agenda, focusing mainly on the global strategy for women, children and adolescents' health, comprehensive health coverage.
The minister delivered the statement of the Kingdom of Bahrain under the theme "The World Health Organization after 75 years: saving lives, achieving health for all".
She expressed congratulations on the end of the pandemic, after the Geneva-based WHO declared that the virus no longer constitutes a global health emergency.
She praised international efforts which contributed to overcoming the global health challenge, commending the role of effective partnerships in protecting societies, which led to integrated immunity and the return to normal life to continue implementing the Millennium Development Goals.
She stressed the Government's commitment to support global initiatives aimed to achieve health for all, by launching many targeted initiatives to engage all countries in these international health trends and achieve sustainable development goals. .
She paid tribute to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, hailing their support to building a viable, integrated and comprehensive system that provides high quality health care services to all social segments and promote preventive plans, immunization programs and vaccination coverage in all life stages.
She commended WHO-led role years-long dedication that contributed to reinfrocing health as a basic human right which must be made available to all.
She called for international solidarity and cooperation to continue implementing health initiatives for all and supporting healthy economies that achieve justice, peace and well-being for all the world's population.
The opening ceremony was attended by Ambassador Dr. Youssef Abdulkarim Muhammad Bucheery, Director General of Legal Affairs and Human Rights at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
